Entended Range Diver Course

Extended Range

This course provides the training and experience to competently utilize air for dives to depths not exceeding 180 fsw. The student will use staged-decompression techniques and EANx mixtures and oxygen for decompression. The objective of this course is to train divers in the proper techniques, gas planning and management, equipment requirements and hazards of deep air diving to depths not exceeding 180 fsw.

  • In so far as this course involves the use of multiple gases, each diver must provide double tank bottom mix cylinders with a minimum capacity of 142 cubic feet, a travel mix cylinder with a minimum volume of 80 cubic feet and an oxygen-clean decompression mix cylinder with a minimum volume of 40 cubic feet. Redundant depth gauges and bottom timers are also required. Although an oxygen analyzer is strongly recommended, your instructor will have one available for use.
  • The Extended Range Diver Course requires two days and four dives within planned stage-decompression limits. Curriculum consists of classroom sessions, equipment configuration, dive planning using appropriate gas mixtures for the dives planned and proper dive execution.
  • The Extended Range Diver Course may be combined with the NACD Stage Diver Course over three days. Students will make between five and six dives. The objective of the course, as taught in this format, is for students to learn dive and gas planning and management, placement of stage cylinders at pre-determined drop points and execution of a dive to a distant point in a designated cave (i.e. Devils Eye/Ear’s Hinkle Restriction, Little River’s well casing, etc.).

Prerequisites: A minimum of 18 years of age, certification as TDI Advanced Nitrox Diver and TDI Decompression Procedures Diver (or equivalent) and a minimum of 100 logged dives of which 25 must be to depths greater than 100 fsw.

Certification Available: TDI.

This course may be combined with NACD Stage Diver training.
